This session will follow the work of the Hanford Elementary school district in supporting homeless students over the last two school years.  Hanford Elementary was designated as in need of Differentiated Assistance by the California Department of Education based on the achievement of homeless students in the 2017-2018 school year. Although there is still much more work to be done, Hanford Elementary has seen significant progress in the areas of chronic absenteeism and suspension rates for homeless students.  In this session we will discuss: •    HESD’s Identification for Differentiated Assistance: Homeless Subgroup •    Recognizing the Need to Support Homeless Students •    Raising Awareness Across the District •    Changing Ideas/Beliefs about Homeless Students •    Identifying the Needs of Homeless Students •    Managing Resources to Support Homeless Students •    Thinking “Outside The Box” (Wednesday Leadership Project) •    Supporting Students at the School Site Additionally, we will provide some suggestions and tips for organizing documentation and FPM compliance.
